Bateleur, Ndutu Area of the Serengeti Plains

This large hawk is widespread in the savanna and grasslands areas of Kenya and northern Tanzania. Its tail is so short that when seen flying it looks like there is not tail at all. This bird was perched early in the morning, awaiting the thermal updrafts to effortlessly gain altitude for foraging.
