Wire-tailed Manakin, Tiputini Research Station

The males of most manakin species perform dances on leks to attract females. Unlike prairie grouse in the US, the manikins are in quite dense forest, and perform six to fifteen feet above the ground. My guide knew the location of the lek of this bird, alongside a well established trail, so he was able to put me on the bird with little difficulty.
