Description
Arctic Hare
I found this animal early one morning and made over a hundred images of it as it fed and then stopped to rest in some rocks. It paid little attention to me. The problem was, it was doing nothing exciting. I had folded up my tripod and was walking away when it suddently occurred to me that I should not leave a calm animal. I returned and tried a trick I had learned in Nova Scotia: Raise both arms like a gull raising both wings, which is an alarm signal. The hare jumped up and ran maybe fifteen feet, then stopped and began cleaning itself. I kept shooting, but did not know I had this pose, where the animal appears to be praying, until I saw the slide a few weeks later.
