Mount Vernon Mansion House in Early Spring, Mount Vernon, Virginia

George Washington inherited this property overlooking the Potomac River upon the death of his brother's widow in 1761 and enlarged the residence over several years. It has now been restored to its appearance in 1799 when Washington died. It is run by a foundation and general admission is permitted for a fee.
