White-tailed Deer, Darnestown, Maryland

The fawn was in my gravel driveway with its mother when I walked out the back door. The doe immediately ran into the woods, while the fawn dropped to the ground covering its eyes. This is probably instinctive protective behavior, as eyes are easy for predators to spot.
