Black Agouti nursing young, Tiputini Research Station

My guide and I had been told of an agouti den and when we approached it along a path, two young were playing outside. Soon the mother appeared and since we remained motionless, she soon began nursing, not fifty feet from where we were standing. Agouti’s meat is prized by native peoples, but they are protected at this research station.
