Rainbow-bearded Thornbill, Yanacocha Reserve

This rare and local bird sometimes can be regularly found at Yanacocha, but for long periods it disappears. The bird appears to be just a plain hummingbird until it turns at exactly the right angle to the sun. Then its “beard” lights up like, well, a rainbow!
