Leopard, Samburu National Park, Kenya

The first evening of our 2005 safari, our guide found this beautiful leopard resting on a dead branch along the banks of the Ewaso Ngiro River. His yawn was probably a wake-up yawn, getting ready for an evening of hunting. We were very fortunate to be able to photograph this animal in peace for perhaps fifteen minutes before other vehicles arrived and disturbed the scene.
