Luna Moth, Seneca, Maryland

These gorgeous, large moths are found throughout the Northeast hardwood forests, but used to be more common. Efforts to wipe out the Gypsy Moth have had a devastating effect on many large and beloved native moths. The wide antennae on this specimen indicates that it is a male.
