African Lion, Ngorongoro Crater, Tanzania

This lion was waiting nearby a mating pair, apparently in the hopes that it would have an opportunity to mate with a lioness in heat. She was 'involved,' however, with a more dominant male and mating every 45 minutes or so. Lions that are paired off start by mating every thirty minutes for the first few days, but the frequency drops off substantially in the days ahead.
