Jackals eat almost anything, so can survive in a great variety of situations. They can often be seen quietly waiting for big cats to get their fill after a kill. Then, along with the vultures, the jackals run in to get a bite or two before hyenas claim the remains. They mate for life and family groups sometimes stay together beyond two generations.
