The Punakha Dzong
This dzong is one of the most sought after spots for visitors to Bhutan. It is located at the confluence of the Pho (father) and Mo (mother) Rivers and is the administrative center of Punakha District. It is a magnificent, huge building first built in 1637, but rebuilt in part recently because of a fire. It is elaborately decorated. Most of it is open to the public. One temple requires shoes to be off and no photographs, but well worth the visit.
