Arctic Hare, Churchill, Manitoba

I watched this animal hop across the snow on Cape Merry and dig out a depression for the night. I photographed it as it settled into the depression when suddenly it sat up and yawned. This image was a winner in the National Wildlife Federation's 2003 international contest.
