Polar Bears, Chesnye, Manitoba

In late February to early March, Polar Bear mothers emerge from natal dens with their young and begin the long trek to Hudson Bay. The mothers have not fed in four months and have lost substantial body weight. The denning area is now a Canadian national park. A former trappers cabin nearby has been converted to a basic wilderness lodge which photographers and bear enthusiasts use as a base camp.
