Description
Northern Hawk Owl, Churchill, Manitoba
Hawk Owls are creatures of the northern boreal forest, preying on mice, voles, lemmings in the summer, and taking more birds in the winter. They are not often observed in the 'Lower 48', but in some irruption years they are seen in some numbers in northern Minnesota. They often perch in the very top of spruce trees and are known to be quite tolerant of observing people.
