In the mid-Atlantic, as in most of the 'Lower 48,' Red Foxes are either a fawn color or the traditional rusty red. In the arctic and sub-arctic, however, many color patterns are noted like this black or silver fox. This morph is born all black except for a white tail tip, but as it matures, its guard hairs acquire a silver tip, giving it the name.
