Navy Marine Memorial

The Navy Marine Memorial of flying seagulls is located along the Potomac River across from Lady Bird Johnson Park. It was designed by Harvey Wiley Corbett, sculpted by Ernesto Begni del Platta and dedicated in October 1934. It commemorates the US Navy and US Merchant Marine sailors who perished in WW1, although it is commonly believed to commemorate Navy and USMC personnel.
