Spotted Thick Knee, Maasai Mara

These strange grassland birds usually can be found in small groups of four or five birds in open country. When they are threatened, they hunker down and freeze, appearing from above to be nothing more than a rock. We drove the Landrover within six feet of this bird and he/she never flew.
