Description
Sage Grouse, near Walden, Colorado
There are five species of prairie grouse in the mid-West and West, each with its own ecological niche. All these grouse “dance” on leks, or mating grounds, in early spring. Sage Grouse occupy large swaths of sage dominated territory from eastern California to Colorado. Watching their rituals and listing to their hoots is a reminder of what the wild West once was.
