Lilac-breasted Roller, Lake Manyara National Park, Tanzania

The Lilac-breasted Roller is arguably the most beautiful bird in East Africa. One afternoon we spotted this bird perched on a snag watching the ground for prey, but had to wait quite some time until six other Land Rovers moved out of the way so that we could get close enough to photograph. And they were not even watching the bird!
