Memorial at Dochu La Pass

At the Dochu La Pass (10,300 ft. elevation), there is a memorial on a hillock known as Druk Wangyal Khang Zhang Chortens. There are 108 chortens, twelve foot towers built here to commemorate soldiers who died evicting insurgents from Assam Province in India in December 2003. The insurgents were using Bhutan as a sanctuary from which to conduct raids back into India. The queen sponsored this memorial. Most of the year the spot is chilly and foggy as it was when we visited.
