Genet Cat, Samburu National Park, Kenya

In a number of dining areas of East African lodges, Genets make a home. I first noticed this in the Nadutu Lodge in Tanzania, but found another family in a lodge in Kenya. Since Genets are nocturnal, they usually come out of holes in the rafters at dinner time, providing unpaid entertainment for the diners. Staff usually feeds these animals to keep them around. It is amusing to ponder how the Health Department in a US city would react to this scene!
