Tufted Puffin, St. Paul Island

Tufted Puffins, like their cousins in the Atlantic, spend most of the year far out at sea, losing their distinctive mating plumes. In early spring they arrive on rocky islands like the Pribilofs to nest and raise young. They can be found as far south as the islands off the southern California coast in small numbers.
