Description
Fowlers Toad, Seneca, MD
In the middle Atlantic, on one or two days in early spring, both American and Fowlers Toads sing a trilling song to attract mates. Females often lay their eggs in ephemeral pools that dry up by early summer. Tadpoles grow rapidly and metamorphose before the water disappears. This is an effective strategy, since there are no predatory fish in such an environment.
